Mr. Rochester

Mr. Rochester was Isabelle’s favorite character of the book Jane Eyre.  She thought he was funny and melodramatic at the end, when he is jealous.
“Am I hideous, Jane?”
“You mocking changling..”
“Who the deuce have you been with?”
“Perhaps you would not like to sit on my knee any longer…”

  2. Oh, yes, I think the writer meant him so, even if Mr. R himself was not aware of it. He is a melancholy being through and through since being tricked into marriage with Bertha by his father long ago.

  3. I always found Mr. Rochester to be purposely funny. Especially the gypsy scene. Who doesn’t love a man in drag?
