You Don’t See This Every Day

6 Oct

Five Squirrels in a pot ready for boiling.  With two hearts visible.  Isabelle shot them Saturday at Daren’s.  He has already got 20.  They were boiled in water with salt, herbs, allspice and pepper.  Then cooled and the legs removed for frying in butter.  The back meat was picked off and used on pizza for lunch.

Whoa, yeah. SQUIRREL pizza. That’s not something you hear every day, either.

Lessee what other recipes there are for those:

Hokay. Of the 320 THOUSAND recipes on that site, 18 claim to contain squirrel. Of those, 4 are mixed drinks, and one is called “Squirrel Nut Cake.” I highly doubt that Squirrel Nuts are really in there. Anyway, the best title among those left is “Barbecued Limb Rat.” Although I would expect them to get kinda dry on the bbq, since they are so small. None of them mention pizza.

And I didn’t see a cacciatore in there, either, which you brought to New Year’s at my house one time. 🙂

Apparently this is a trendy meat in the UK:

And according to that Telegraph article those squirrels were worth about $40.00. Makes me think buying lifetime hunting licenses for the children when they were toddlers will pay off.

Yeah, I can just see The Boy and The Girl going into a lucrative business together of supplying Manhattanites with expensive, trendy Bush Meat. Then again, maybe not. 😉
